Città delle Scienze is the project for the creation of Torino University new scientific hub in Grugliasco. The main goal of Città delle Scienze is to promote efficiency, interest and competitiveness of the different Scientific Departments in the fields of research, teaching and collaboration with enterprises, through synergies and aggregation of resources, by gathering scientists and experts to tackle the ongoing challenges and favouring the link with the local industry. The new hub will include the Departments of Chemistry, Life Science and System Biology of Università degli Studi di Torino which, together with the adjacent complex of the Department of Agrarian, Forest and Food Sciences and the Department of Veterinary Sciences, will create a new model of Metropolitan University Campus. The new Campus, entirely financed by Intesa Sanpaolo, will lead to a substantial increase in Grugliasco university population, from the current 5,000 units to over 10,000. The project covers an area of 120,000 sqm: 22,000 sqm for classrooms (teaching and studying), common spaces and student services; 47,500 sqm for research; 7,300 sqm for sport activities; 7,200 sqm for leisure, refreshment area, cafeteria and relax areas; 40,000 sqm for the new urban park. The footbridge above the railway will complete the project, together with the creation of access roads and cycle lanes. The project will gather different Departments in a single campus, thus promoting synergies between researchers in interdisciplinary sectors, such as Agrifood, Green Chemistry, Sustainable Energy, Materials Science, Bioeconomy and Environmental Sustainability, with a view to the modern concept of “one health” linking human, animal and environmental health. At the same time, animal health will be the ideal bridge between the activities carried out in this campus and at Parco della Salute.
