The project for the new route of tram line 12 will repurpose the now decommissioned tunnel between Madonna di Campagna and Dora, as well as the long railway trench along Via Saint Bon.

The project consists of two main sections:
1. The Southern Section (Corso Lepanto – Corso Giulio Cesare):
Utilizing an existing tramway infrastructure, it will connect the center-south area of the city (Corso Lepanto, Corso Re Umberto, Corso Stati Uniti, Via Sacchi) with the city center and Corso Giulio Cesare.
2. The Northern Section (Corso Giulio Cesare – Allianz Stadium):
Utilizing the Torino-Ceres railway line (reopened in January 2024) between Porta Milano and Madonna di Campagna, it will integrate with Corso Grosseto and terminate at Allianz Stadium.
The connection of the Torino-Ceres line with the RFI network at Rebaudengo enabled the decommissioning of the infrastructure between Stazione Dora and Largo Grosseto.
