The former Mercati Generali (wholesale markets) in Torino consist of two series of symmetrical concrete galleries with shed light. In 2006 they were used during the XX Winter Olympics through a recovery project. They are connected to Lingotto multi-functional centre and Metro Line 1 by the Olympic footbridge.
In 2025, the City of Turin granted approval to the project proposed by Go Fit Italia, recognising its public interest. This decision enables the launch of the procedure for the development and management, through a Public–Private Partnership (PPP), of a new sports centre within the former Mercati Generali area, covering approximately 10,450 sqm.
The facility will include a swimming pool, fitness areas, spaces for sports disciplines, a children’s play area, and a food and beverage outlet for families and children, with a strong inclusive and social orientation.
In parallel, in the buildings located south of the arcades, the Compagnia di San Paolo has expressed interest in the creation of a biomedical business incubator, in collaboration with the Politecnico di Torino and the University of Turin, in synergy with the development of the future Parco della Salute.
