With the Campus of Science and the Environment, the University of Turin is implementing an innovative university project dedicated to education and research, aimed at fostering strong interdisciplinarity among different yet closely related fields, including green chemistry, environment, agri-food systems, animal health, renewable energy, circular economy, bioeconomy, and advanced materials.
Within the new Campus, alongside the already established Departments of Agricultural, Forest and Food Sciences and Veterinary Sciences, the Departments of Chemistry, Life Sciences, and Systems Biology will also be located.

The construction site covers an area of over 228,000 square metres, in addition to the more than 300,000 square metres already existing. Architectural quality, environmental sustainability, flexibility and functionality of spatial organisation, energy efficiency, and safety were the guiding principles of the design.
The building dedicated to teaching activities comprises 32 classrooms with capacities ranging from 30 to 250 seats, two conference halls with a total capacity of 450 seats, and 10 study rooms providing 300 seats overall. A second building houses 50 teaching laboratories, offering a total of 1,735 workstations, 390 research laboratories, 270 faculty offices, as well as meeting rooms and seminar rooms. A further 50,000 square metres are allocated to the development of the Butterfly Area, conceived as a space for research, education, and collaboration with the business sector, aimed at supporting the economic growth of the territory.

An additional building accommodates catering facilities on the ground floor, along with administrative offices and meeting rooms on the upper levels.

One of the core design principles was the integration of the Campus green areas with the large public park already present in the area, following a logic of spatial continuity and interpenetration. The project provides for a total of 90,000 square metres of urban green spaces, including the planting of 350 mature trees and 3,300 shrubs.

The project is completed by the construction of a railway footbridge, access road infrastructure, and the enhancement of the cycling network.
