Italia '61

Torino organizes the celebrations for the centenary of the Unification of Italy at “Italia ‘61”, the complex built in the southern part of the city. 8.5 million visitors converge in the area designed by architect Nello Renacco, where the Municipality would like to create a park. Different exhibition buildings are completed in a very short time, those still left today are: Palazzo del Lavoro by Pier Luigi Nervi, Palazzo a Vela by Annibale and Giorgio Rigotti, Franco Levi and Silvio Bizzarri, the Regions’ pavilions (now headquarters of ILO-BIT) by Erberto Carboni, Carlo Casati and Nello Renacco, together with the traces of the illuminated fountain and the monorail. At the same time, Palazzo dello Sport in Parco Ruffini is built based on the design by engineer Annibale Vitellozzi.
