The enclosure wall of Collegno-based Psychiatric Hospital is demolished: the initiative adopted by the local administration anticipates the Basaglia Law no. 180 (passed in 1978) which prescribes the closing of lunatic asylums and regulates involuntary hospitalization by setting up public mental health services. In 1973, the Regio Manicomio for women inpatients had already been closed in via Giulio. In 1979, also the children’s psychiatric hospital Villa Azzurra will be closed in Grugliasco.
