Heysel

On May 29th, just before the kick-off of the European Cup final match between Juventus and Liverpool, one of the most dramatic events of European football takes place at the Heysel arena in Brussells. The riots provoked by the hooligans generate panic in the public of the sectors next to the stand of the English supporters: 39 people will die and over 600 will be injured in the resulting stampede and collapse of the opposite sector wall. After this tragedy, the European Convention on spectator violence and misbehaviour at sport events is adopted in the same year.
