Lingotto che cambia

The empty spaces of Lingotto factory are used to stage the international exhibition “Russian and Soviet art. 1870-1930”, curated by Giovanni Carandente and set-up designed by Renzo Piano. The initiative is promoted by Fiat which in these years, after the experience of Palazzo Grassi in Venice purchased in 1984, has been investing in international exhibitions. In 1992, the exhibition “American art. 1930-1970” is staged at Lingotto, curated by Attilio Codognato and designed again by Renzo Piano. The historic car factory, after its closure, experiences a short period of important cultural events which lead to its subsequent transformation. From 1994 on, the congress centre and the auditorium will be opened, together with a hotel and the “Garden of wonders”, while on the roof the so-called “Bolla”, a suspended glass sphere-shaped meeting room, will be created. Between 1999 and 2003, a multiplex cinema, the Dental School, the classrooms of Politecnico di Torino, and the Pinacoteca Giovanni e Marella Agnelli will be set up inside “Scrigno”, the box-like structure on the rooftop.
