Piazza Palazzo di Città is closed to cars. It is the first of a series of pedestrianizations of squares and streets which are part of a strategy aiming at promoting the old town centre and its architectural heritage. The following pedestrianized areas are: piazza San Giovanni and piazza Corpus Domini (1995), piazza della Consolata (1996), piazza Castello (1999), the area around Mole Antonelliana (2000), piazza Valdo Fusi (2004), up to piazza Vittorio Veneto, San Carlo, Carignano, and Carlo Alberto, whose redevelopment, in this case, is part of the great works implemented for the 2006 Winter Olympics. Pedestrianization will also be carried out in via Lagrange, via Carlo Alberto, via Accademia delle Scienze, and recently also via Roma.
