Garrone

Demolition of the building block in via Garrone 73, Mirafiori Sud area, built by IACP in the mid-‘60s to host the families that lived in run-down shacks. In 2004, the adjacent block in via Artom will also be demolished. Built with very poor economic resources, the buildings in via Garrone and via Artom witness several protests and illegal occupations during the housing struggles in the seventies, thus becoming the symbol of the discomfort and hardships experienced by Southern Italy immigrants. The buildings which were not demolished have been substantially restructured through a dedicated urban recovery plan, complemented with social support actions for the local inhabitants.
