‘Palazzo del Lavoro’, the architectural masterpiece by Pier Luigi Nervi, built in 1961 to celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the Unification of Italy, has been in a run-down state since the early 2000s. In 2020, it became a property of Gruppo Cassa Depositi e Prestiti that decided to invest on the restoration and redevelopment of the building.
In September 2023 the works started to improve the facility safety and to rebuild the roof, while in the previous months two of the facade spans overlooking corso Unità d’Italia were recovered, a preliminary work needed for the restoration of the whole building. As to the new use, the City has already approved its conversion into a service facility for people and enterprises, thus envisioning the possibility of housing offices, exhibition, educational, cultural and commercial areas, though limited to the services functional to the overall project.
