The Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (Sump) is a medium/long-term strategic urban mobility plan ratified by the Italian Government, drawn up and approved by Città Metropolitana. The Plan, which must be updated every five years, must lay down the mobility strategies and actions in the metropolitan area in line with territorial planning and pursuing the goals of environmental, social and economic sustainability. The first issues emerging from the analysis of local needs are: improvement of the connection among the different areas in the metropolitan city, with new ring roads in addition to the radial roads converging in Torino; strengthening of public transport in sparsely inhabited areas; differentiation and separation of urban and extra-urban traffic; improvement of road traffic and public transport congested nodes, traffic safety, daily behaviours and habits of private vehicle drivers.
