Torino City Lab (TCL) is an initiative-platform whose goal is to help companies test innovative solutions for urban living, based on public interest real conditions.
Promoted by Città di Torino, the platform is the result of a great local partnership between public and private actors whose aim is to support and develop the local innovation ecosystem. The two long-term goals are: positioning Torino at European and international level as a place where innovation is facilitated and attracting enterprises from Europe and the rest of the world to trigger new economic development processes inside the local ecosystem, especially in those sectors with a high added value and serving tomorrow’s citizens. TLC is conceived as an open and widespread “innovation lab”. It allows a simplified access to public spaces and assets, including the intangible ones (processes, services and data), the scale-up of solutions in networks and projects on a local, national and international scale, the involvement of final users and citizens in dealing with local challenges, the active participation of communities through the “Challenges” programme. In 2020, Torino City Lab has been developing and testing autonomous mobility (autonomous vehicles and drones for the transportation of people and things) and innovative urban services enabled by 5G-technology, including city applications of artifical intelligence and collaborative robotics, internet of things, augmented and virtual reality.

other notes

“Torino City Lab” is the evolution of Torino Living Lab, started in Torino in Campidoglio neighbourhood in 2016 where 29 different experiments were carried out in the field of environment, mobility and tourism, thus becoming the first space in the city dedicated to innovation and smart city. Since then, other experiments were performed in 2017 and 2018, thus turning Torino into a permanent and always "open" living lab.
