Torino has a great vocation linked with food. For this reason, the City has always been implementing actions and projects to promote equal access to quality food and to further strengthen this vocation: from the fight against food waste to the organization of international high-quality events, urban marketing actions and initiatives for raising public awareness on healthy and sustainable lifestyles. One of the developed projects is “Atlante del Cibo”, a food atlas whose goal is to improve knowledge about the food system, monitor the progress of the related projects and measure the impact on the territory. A food council (Consiglio del Cibo) has been set up whose structure is specifically focused on the promotion of proposals, policies and actions to make sure quality food is accessible to everyone. Among the expected results: increase in the quantity of locally produced and consumed food, in the production of organic food in the metropolitan area and in the collaborative capacity of small enterprises to reach wider markets; promotion of local agri-food competences; international acknowledgement of local cuisine and rise in food & wine tourism.
