The Regional Mobility Plan has set medium and long-term goals and strategies to extend the network and technological infrastructures of the Metropolitan Railway System.
The infrastructure enhancement measures concern the new SFM5 line, which will run from Torino Stura to San Luigi di Orbassano. This line will therefore connect the already operational stations of Torino Stura, Rebaudengo–Fossata, and Porta Susa with the new stations of San Paolo (n183), Borgata Quaglia–Gru (n186), and San Luigi di Orbassano (n187).
As part of the broader strengthening of the Metropolitan Railway System, the construction of the new Dora (n184) and Zappata (n185) stops is also planned, while the Torino Grosseto station was completed in 2024.
SAN LUIGI RAILWAY STATION
San Luigi stop will be near the hospital bearing the same name in the small town of Orbassano. The project envisages, besides the creation of the new station, also the adjustment and rearrangement of the existing tracks of Orbassano railway station and the construction of a park & ride area (around 400 parking spaces and bike boxes). The project is financed by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan funds (measure 1.5).
